volume one: amplified dissent
The first volume of project: TAPE SHIFTA delves into the sounds of sonic resistance across the latter part of the 20th century. Cloaking their lyrics in romance and metaphors, Eritrean singers/musicians painted vivid images of a dawning revolution and simultaneously pledged their eternal loyalty to Eritrea and her people. This allowed them to convey political messages of resistance
mostly without attracting the attention of the Ethiopian occupying forces. Amplified Dissent will feature tapes that were recorded
during the early, central, and final stages of the Eritrean War of Independence.
